Organic Landscapes™ - Earth Friendly & Always Organic

LAWN FACTS & REMOVALS

You might be wondering why
Organic Landscapes™
is primarily focused on removing lawns
and installing beautiful low-water plants.

Here are the facts:

The typical lawn needs between 1-2 inches
of water per week.

The typical lawn in the dry areas of the West
gets zero inches of water per week from rain
for the period of May through November.
So, multiply a typical 20-foot by 20-foot lawn
(400 sq. ft.) by one inch of rain
and you can see that this lawn needs a minimum
of 400 gallons of water per week to live.

Now, multiply this by the total number of lawns
in the dry regions of the U.S.
and the waste of our most precious
resource for life
becomes grossly evident.

Gas-powered mowers are also used
1-2 times per week on the typical lawn.
A huge greenhouse gas-producing carbon emission
can be calculated from this as well.

In the U.S.
there are roughly
30 million acres of lawns -
and on those lawns,
70 million pounds
of herbicides and pesticides
are applied annually.

Over 1/3 of the chemicals
applied to lawns
across the U.S.
are known carcinogens
and many are banned
in other developed countries.

In over 20 years
as a landscaper
the number one reason
people ask me
to put in a lawn
is so their young children
have a place to play.
